Obama's conciliatory unifying tone fell flat today.
Using all the same well worn phrases Obama expressed the same dry willingness to "listen to ideas -- IF Republicans have any." He promised again to work together on not just getting things done in an emergency, but on how those things get done. All this with the enthusiasm and conviction of a tortured patient trying to endure an enema.
His brief conciliatory trip to the back of the bus was followed closely by his deep understanding of the 2010 election that the American people were basically upset about the slow pace of Obama's agenda, slow pace of Obama's plan for economic recovery, and slow pace Obama's healthcare schemes still threatening to take affect on the populace sometime before 2014.
While he spared America from another decayed analogy of a vehicle in a ditch he revealed no plan to move us forward.
The removal of so many Democrats last night, so many who were ranking committee leaders, has left Obama in a great power deficit only rivaled by the financial condition of our country. He has many cabinet positions to fill and many bridges to rebuild. He is nearly at a loss for words and completely at a loss for vision.
As Obama lamely delegated his leadership to Pelosi and Reid in the past, it is very likely he will again delegate the vision, energy, and ideas to restore America to the able hands of the House of Representatives. He could do much worse. He already has.
